What is it?
Well its the foundation of technology. Engineers exploit the knowledge of physics to create useful machines. It is the explanation of observed
phenomena in terms of theories that can be used to predict an outcome. Experiments are used to make observations and to verify (or not) a predicted outcome. (Chemistry is
rather like a subset of physics)
The Science/ Technology
True understanding may never be possible, as all we really do is provide a rationale framework of ideas tied
together with mathematical formulae, but at the end of the day, do we truly understand why gravity attracts masses together or what the true nature of a photon is or why an electron has an
electrical charge .... Apart from the philosophical side of things, physics is very powerful in providing a way to exploit the properties of the world that
we live in. In this site it is only possible to barely scratch the surface, and a few fundamental areas have been included to keep you amused and that relate to many of the gadgets that you can buy
and use.
